Hi beauty! It's Jillian again hoping to help you find the best fit for your makeup artist for your wedding day! It might seem silly to feel like you need to find a good fit for your makeup artist but let's face it, not every professional is for every person. You need to feel comfortable, connect and have a genuine feeling of wanting this person to be around you, up in your face on one of the biggest days of your life. If you are an introvert, someone who likes calm, quiet atmospheres, chances are you aren't going to love that loud, aggressive type professional on the morning of your wedding. Same goes for the loud, extroverted person. Maybe a quiet professional makes you nervous because you like a party atmosphere and want everyone to be having fun! Only you will know what kind of person makes you feel best.
Now that you have an idea of what type of personality to look out for you also have to think about their work. Can you picture yourself in some of the looks they post? Does there work look more romantic? Is it more Glam? Is it minimal? Think about the type of wedding you are having, does the makeup seem to "fit" your style? Don't know your makeup style? Take my quiz! Now don't get me wrong, just because a particular makeup artist posts many photos of similar looks, doesn't mean they aren't capable of executing the look you have in mind. True seasoned makeup artists can do multiple different looks. However, there are some makeup artists out there that are one trick ponies...This is is something you will soon figure out at your makeup trial. DO NOT SKIP THE MAKEUP TRIAL!! Which leads me to the next category, makeup. What kind of makeup is your makeup artist using? And WAY more importantly is it clean and sanitary? Does your artist make sure to sanitize/ wash their hands before they touch your face? Are they using a disposable applicator and not double dipping?!? We all saw the Seinfeld episode...it's gross. Are their brushes clean and ready to go, or do they all looked used and stained? A well-kept kit and sanitary procedure is not only aesthetically pleasing; it's also 100% necessary to be clean and safe. Do you want pink eye?... Didn't think so... The next thing to look out for is the way the makeup artist communicates with you. Is he/she timely? Do they make you wait over a week to answer a question? Promptness may not be necessary to some clients but trust me; I am not a fan of waiting on a professional that I am paying lots of money to get back to me at their leisure. Of course, there are extenuating circumstances but all the time is not ok. And finally, does this professional have a contract? Are they insured? Seems silly right but guess what, it is essential that they have both of these. You may not think a contract is a big deal but when you are sitting there without a makeup artist on your wedding day, don't say I didn't warn you! A contract not only protects the makeup artist but it protects YOU! You need the peace of mind that your artist will show up at the time and place you paid for them to do so. If not you will be in a world of hurt...and trust me you don't want that. As far as insurance, well this is a given. If he/she falls at your house, on your driveway, at your venue it is HUGE that they have insurance...you get the idea. Be smart with your choices. You're an intelligent woman avoid a wedding day disaster. Let's recap what to look for when booking your makeup artist. Do you vibe with your makeup artist? Is she/he someone you want around the morning of your wedding? Does your makeup artist have a portfolio that demonstrates the look you are interested in? If not do you believe they can deliver? Is your makeup artist sanitary and use proper cleaning procedures? Does your makeup artist communicate in a timely professional matter? Does your Makeup Artist have a contract and insurance? Use these as a guide, GET A TRIAL and I know you will make the best decision for your wedding day!
